As an MSP, we strive to strengthen our clients security by offering 2FA options. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a fast and simple way to secure a user’s access to their account. 2FA may be accomplished by entering a one-time password (OTP) that is sent to or generated by a user’s mobile phone or could be in the form of a cryptographic token that is sent to the user through a security key attached to the device attempting to log in. Whether or not you’re using 2FA, it is important to maintain healthy password practices. There are still users that have the same password for all their accounts. When clients create passwords, we are not there to oversee the process, but we can enable measures that will force them to engage with good habits. Don’t reuse passwords across various systems, update your passwords periodically, keep them complex or use a passphrase, and don’t share them with others. Remember, passwords are the keys to your online doors; do your best to protect your assets. Practicing a strong password behavior is the foundation of many aspects of a cybersecurity program. By using the 2FA authenticator tool, the user will always be sent a one-time passcode to their device. Only with the correct email address, password, and one-time generated passcode will the user be able to access their account.
